Preparing your business for its next stage of growth

Growth is exciting, but it also exposes weaknesses. Processes that worked for ten people break at fifty. Leaders who did everything themselves become stretched thin. Preparing before growth arrives makes the journey far smoother.

Strengthen your leadership team

As the business grows, founders and senior leaders can’t be involved in every decision. Identify who will lead each area, give them clear responsibilities and support them to make decisions without constant sign-off.

Document how things work

Key processes such as sales, delivery, invoicing and hiring should be written down, simply and clearly. Documentation makes it easier to train new people, keep quality consistent and spot improvements.

Check your systems can scale

  • Can your finance and reporting tools handle more customers and transactions?
  • Will your CRM and project tools support larger teams?
  • Are spreadsheets doing jobs that need a proper system?

Plan your hiring ahead

Hiring takes longer than most people expect. Map out the roles you’ll need over the next 12 to 18 months and start building relationships with potential candidates early.

Build the foundations before you need them, not after they crack.

Protect your culture

Write down the values and behaviours that make your business work well, and use them in hiring, onboarding and performance conversations. Culture doesn’t scale by accident.

Keep an eye on cash

Growth often needs investment before it pays back. A clear cash flow forecast helps you fund growth without putting the business at risk.

Take it one stage at a time

You don’t need to prepare for every future scenario. Focus on the next stage, the next doubling of customers or team size, and build what you need to get there.
